light into branches (david andree rework)

reworking tracks from ‘tiger flower circle sun’ by christopher willits as part of his remix project. these tracks were done in a period of a day. i used the stems provided by christopher willits and combined them with my approach to creating and layering live tape loops with additional real time acoustic guitar instrumentation with the intention of creating a new suite of works.

for samples, tape and acoustic guitar

an unlikely collaboration

i made a field recording while walking the entire length of the market in downtown minneapolis today – passing people, traffic and the occasional street musician. when i later listened to the playback of the recording, i became interested in the passing moments of a hammered dulcimer and a saxophone player. working with the limitation of leaving elements of their original performances intact, i wanted to see how i could resolve their two performances into a musical composition.

the following is live processing the single field recording into a collaboration of sorts

improvisation sourced from live input of a vinyl pressing of rachmaninoff’s sontana in g minor, op. 19. into mlr using an ardinome

(the turntable used was a recently acquired portable. after some work cleaning up the idler wheel and soldering to fix a volume issue today, the califone is now in great working order)
